小笠原諸島を除く関東以南の常緑広葉樹林に広く分布する。海外では台湾及び中国(海南島)から知られる。ブナ科の常緑樹の枯れ葉に見られるが、特にアカガシやアラカシに多い。本種の複眼は腹面で後方に伸びており、このような構造を持つのは本属中で本種のみである。食菌性。
This species is widely distributed in evergreen broad-leaved forests south of the Kanto region, excluding the Ogasawara Islands, and is also known from Taiwan and China (Hainan Island). It inhabits the dead leaves of evergreen trees of Fagaceae, but is especially common in Quercus acuta and Q. glauca. The compound eyes of this species extend posteriorly on the ventral surface, and this species is unique within the genus to have such a structure. Fungus-feeder.
